Sunrise

Nicole woke me up around 6:45 am telling me that it was "really pretty outside [her] window."  She asked me, "Who made it pretty?"  I'm glad she's appreciating the beauty of nature.  She asked to take her for a walk.  Instead, we went just outside our apartment where she showed me her new swinging skills.  (Yesterday, while playing at her cousins, she was finally patient enough to teach herself how to swing.  She's on her way.)  I snapped some pictures of the "pretty" morning and of Nicole.

BTW, Allison started pulling herself up into standing position about two weeks ago.  She's a little bit haphazard and fearless, and has more strength than coordination - translation:  she tumbled a lot, especially at the beginning, and sometimes has some really weird stances, like her legs really far apart, or one foot facing one direction, and her other leg twisted in another awkward direction.

When Uncle Barrett visited just over a week ago, she officially became a crawler.  I caught her crawling a few times before, but she didn't "know" about crawling, so when she wanted to get somewhere, she got on her belly and army crawled.  But when Barrett was here, we went to a Fun Center, and I put Allison on the ground with a large area for her to cover, so apparently she realized that it was much easier and faster to cover lots of ground when she was elevated.  She is a very cute crawler.  Last night, I took her to a cub scouts pack meeting (I was recently asked to serve as a Webelos leader), and before the meeting started, she crawled over to where a bunch of 8-9-year-old boys were and started hanging out with them.  The boys surrounded her and all played with her, and my friend's 8-year-old autistic son, who loves babies (and is always begging his mom to have a ninth child - a baby girl), especially enjoyed her company.  I don't have any pictures of that, but I'll include a couple pictures from the last few days.

Mother's Day Toucan

This morning, Nicole and Tim gave me sugar cookies for Mother's Day.  After Tim left for work, I told Nicole she should make something for her Grandma, who we would be seeing later today.  I was thinking along the lines of a Mother's Day card.  Well, she immediately went to her room and eagerly got started on a "project."  Apparently inspired by her Daddy Daughter Date to the aquarium on Friday, she decided to make a toucan for Grandma.  My only contributions were, after she had made the toucan (and had me staple it together for her), she asked me if toucans have arms; I told her they have wings, so she made some wings - and I encouraged her to place the wings behind the body rather in front of it.

I think Grandma will like this because she loves things that are colorful!  Nicole certainly fulfills on that front.

Nicole and Allison swinging

Below are pictures of Nicole's first time on a swing.  She has always loved movement.  Whenever she would cry, I would just swing her as high as I could in my arms, and she would stop.  I was pushing her pretty high in the swing, so, as you can see from her smile, she thought this was the greatest thing ever.

Also pictured below is Allison on a swing, probably her second or third time.  It was a beautiful day!

Be kind to others

From the other room, I just heard Nicole sing, "I am a Child of God," and then say a prayer.  I couldn't hear much of the prayer, but I did catch, "Please help me to be kind to others, and to love others..."
