Walking styles

Allison has a very different style from Nicole.  Nicole was cautious and nervous.  She was terrified of the vacuum cleaner, and one of her biggest moments of courage was when she was around one year old.  I opened the closet and there was the vacuum cleaner.  In a moment of determination, she slowly and bravely reached out her hand...and eventually touched the vacuum cleaner.  In contrast, Allison follows the vacuum cleaner around curiously while it travels around the carpet.

When Nicole learned to walk, at little over a year old, she was sturdy and immediately competent, and rarely ever fell.  Within a few weeks, she was running.

Allison, on the other hand, is careless and haphazard.  By her definition, walking is "to fall forward, but catch yourself on your feet before you plummet onto your face."  Of course, occasionally, your feet won't move quickly enough, and you will flop onto your belly, but you can make the most of it by rolling over onto your back and pretending you are a bear cub.
